TODAY

Welcome to All, especially if you are visiting us today.  Today is Claudia’s last Sunday with us.  We will celebrate her ministry with St. James the Less and wish her well as we all move forward.  Please join us for a reception for her in Brydon Hall following 10:00 church.

Ushers Needed!  Summer is a popular time to “church shop” and one of the most important roles in being welcoming to visitors is our ushers.  Responsibilities include handing out bulletins and smiling!  Currently, all weeks in June and July are open.  Being an usher is not a difficult job, but it is vital to the worship experience on any Sunday morning.   If you can help, please contact Rich Holt, 368.0609 or rich.holt8@gmail.com.

Graduations   Do you have a student graduating from high school, community college, college, and/or graduate school this spring?  Please let the office know his or her name and future plans if they have them settled, by June 7.  We’ll recognize their accomplishments in next week’s bulletin.

WELCOMING

New Pictorial Directory Coming-To assist newcomers (particularly our new Priest) in matching names and faces, the Newcomers' Committee will begin taking pictures and updating information for a new directory, to be published in-house on our current computer system.  Our photographer, Dick Shirey, will begin taking photos at 9 a.m. and immediately following the 10:00 service on June 19th and 26th.  Please try to get your family's photo taken on one of those two dates if possible.  There will be a make up date scheduled, but we want to have the directory completed over the summer.  Two photos will be taken of each person or family for you to select your preference.  Photos will be taken in Brydon Hall.

COMING UP

Youth Sunday and Parish Picnic   Next Sunday, June 12 is the Senior High Youth Service.  At 10:00 am church we will acknowledge all of our graduates and recognize our Youth Leaders and Sunday School teachers.  We'll present a gift to our graduating high school seniors.  Following church we'll gather for the Parish Picnic.  We'll provide the fried chicken and lemonade. Please bring a dish to share.  All are welcome!

Vacation Bible School   AUGUST 15 - 18th from 5:30-7:30 pm.  VBS is a 3-day education program called “SURPRISE: Stories of Discovering Jesus”; the fourth night is an all-family dinner/fun night.  Jesus surprised the people he met.  Are you ready for your children to be surprised by Jesus?   Everyone is welcome.  The VBS educational program is designed for Pre-K - 5th Graders and we would love to have middle and senior high kids perform the dramas that are included with the program and to help with the children’s activities. And of course we need volunteers to make this a special experience for our children!  Questions?  Interested in participating?  Contact Jen Martin, sjtlvbs@gmail.com .

OUTREACH

CARITAS – CARITAS is one of our area’s best ministries, providing shelter, food, and community to a group of homeless people, church by church, one week at a time.  This is an opportunity for community-based hands-on ecumenical outreach.  Our neighbors at St Ann's will host CARITAS guests from June 4 - June 18.  As a collaborative effort, Duncan Memorial and St. James the Less will partner to provide St. Ann's CARITAS guests transportation to the YMCA and laundromat.  Van Driver & Rider Volunteers are wanted, Monday - Thursday evening of each week, June 6 – 9 and June 13 - 16.  Each church will donate their own van with a volunteer driver and rider.  It involves approximately two hours of your time on a night of your choosing. We are seeking 1 driver and 1 rider to wait for our very appreciative guests to wash their clothes or to shower.  One evening, 2 hours, and you go home knowing you helped an appreciative person on their difficult path of getting their life back to normal.  You will get more "Thank yous" in two hours than you'll get the rest of the day! Please consider volunteering.

SJTL CARITAS Week July 9-16:   This year St. James the Less will host our ~40 CARITAS men the week of July 9 - 16.  Volunteers are needed as overnight chaperones, transportation drivers and helpers to shuttle our guests, food service providers, and liaisons supporting neighboring churches with navigating the church.   If you’d like more information, or to volunteer, please contact Erik Helsley at (434) 760-1111 or erik.a.helsley@gmail.com. or Ricki Carson (food service coordinator) at r.gardenia@gmail.com or 798.1782.   Sign-up sheets are at Information Central.

Seeking CARITAS Donations:  In the hallway will be multiple donation stations for CARITAS.   We are seeking gently used (or new) pillowcases and towels and washcloths for the guests’ use during their stay July 9 - 16.  Also, we are accepting donations for travel size soaps, lotions, deodorants, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoos, and conditioner (no mouthwash, please.).

Peter Paul Development Center   strives to help their participants with basic needs.  Currently, they request note pads and greeting cards for the senior citizens they serve.  If you’d like to contribute, there is a marked basket at Information Central.
