NeverTheLess – April 23, 2017

Welcome to All, especially if you are visiting us today.  We are delighted to have you here. We invite everyone to wear a nametag.  If you don’t have one, please see an usher or a greeter for assistance. Please also fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

Christian Formation   Bible Study resumes today, 9 a.m. in Brydon Hall, with a conversation about the Book of Acts and the Sermon on the Mount.  Matthew 6:1-18 and Luke 11:2-4.  The conversation will continue next week, and participants will then discuss where to journey next.

Protection for Memorial Garden to be Installed    Two weeks ago, we announced that the installation of a gate at the West entrance to the Memorial Garden (near the kitchen) would take place this past Monday. Installation has been delayed so that the fabricator and Miss Utility can coordinate efforts.  The purpose of the wrought-iron gate is to protect this special place from loose dogs and any others who may be unaware of the nature of this sacred space.  The gate will be open wide when the church is open, and it will not be locked at all. A kind and generous donation has paid for this improvement.

Vertical fencing will extend from the brick wall by the outside kitchen entrance, across the pavement to the steps that lead under the church. The gate will be left open during church hours, including Sundays.  The Memorial Garden was established in 1988. Engraved stones and brass plaques mark the eternal presence of more than three dozen beloved parishioners and family members.

A Joy-full Send-off   a Joy-full celebration team is in the works to coordinate a fine send-off for our faithful friend and priest Charles Joy. His last service with us will be May 21.  Following the service, we will enjoy a meal together in Brydon Hall. Please mark your calendars.

Please gather your thoughts and memories of a special time with Fr. Charles—notes, drawings, poems, letters, pictures—and bring them to church.  There is a dedicated collection box in the parish office; the box will be presented to Charles as part of our celebration.

There are many ways for us to show our appreciation of Charles and his ministry with St. James the Less. You may volunteer via our website (look under “News”) or sign up at Information Central. Also, a collection is being taken for a purse. Checks may be made payable to St. James the Less with a “Charles Joy” memo.

Would You Like Help    getting to church on Sunday?  We would like to make Sunday worship services more accessible to those who may be unable to drive by offering transportation to SJTL. If you are interested in this offering for yourself, a friend or a neighbor, please contact the church office by email or calling 798-6336.

In Case of Pastoral Emergency:   Anna is on-call 24/7 for pastoral emergencies.  If you would like to speak with her about a pastoral matter at any time, she is available to you.  If it is during regular business hours, please call the church office. Outside of regular business hours, please call the rectory at 804.299.3730. If there is no answer there, you may contact Senior Warden Yancey Jones 804.393.9901 or Junior Warden Rebecca Cline 804.683.0081.
