NeverTheLess – April 9, 2017

Welcome to All, especially if you are visiting us today.  We are delighted to have you here. We invite everyone to wear a nametag.  If you don’t have one, please see an usher or a greeter for assistance.

Communications-Holy Week Daily Meditations   as we journey through this week, please note that we will forgo our usual news-y eblast on Wednesday and instead, offer a daily lesson and meditation starting Monday April 10.   If you’d like to receive our e-newsletter and/or meditation, please call the office or visit our website to sign up.  St. James the Less also has a Facebook page, where we offer, among other things, a daily reflection.

Explore the Labyrinth   we will leave out the large labyrinth created by our Lenten Spiritual Practices participants in Brydon Hall through Holy Week. You are welcome to walk it any time the church is open.

Deadline to order Easter flowers    If you would like to contribute to the flowers at Easter, in memory of, or thanksgiving for, a loved one, please contact Margaret in the office. Deadline to submit names is Wednesday, April 12.  Suggested donation is $35.00. We will print the names on a bulletin insert at both services on Easter.

Protection for Memorial Garden to be Installed    to protect the sanctity of the Memorial Garden, a handsome wrought-iron gate will be professionally installed on April 18. The vestry approved this solution late last year following reports of dogs loose in the garden as well as people trespassing after dark though the grounds. An anonymous donor has paid for the improvement.

Vertical fencing will extend from the brick wall by the outside kitchen entrance, across the pavement to the steps that lead under the church. The gate will be left open during church hours, including Sundays. A dedication may be planned for a later date, which will include affixing a plaque that formally marks the entrance.

The Memorial Garden was established in 1988. Engraved stones and brass plaques mark the eternal presence of more than three dozen beloved parishioners.

A Joy-full Send-off   a Joy-full celebration team is in the works to coordinate a fine send-off for our faithful friend and supply priest Charles Joy. His last service will be May 21, followed by a meal together, in Brydon Hall. Please mark your calendars.

A number of opportunities will exist for us to show our appreciation of Charles and his ministry with St. James the Less. A volunteer sign-up sheet is available on the website and is the preferred method for contributing, as several tasks need attention. A sign-up sheet is also available at Information Central. Additionally, a collection is being taken for a purse. Checks may be made payable to St. James the Less with a “Charles Joy” memo.  More information will be forthcoming.

Do You Need Help    getting to church on Sunday?  We would like to make Sunday worship services more accessible to those who are unable to drive by offering transportation to SJTL. If you are interested in this offering for yourself, a friend or a neighbor, please contact the church office by email or calling 798-6336.

Peter Paul Development Center    hosts their annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 15.  If you would like to help fill Easter baskets this year, suggestions for items and sample baskets are in the hallway at Information Central.  Please bring your gift items to us by April 12 so volunteers can get them to PPDC.  Thanks to everyone for your continued support of the work and mission of PPDC.

To Reach The Rector   To reach Anna during non-business hours, please call the rectory at (804) 299-3730. If there is no answer, you may also contact Senior Warden Yancey Jones (804) 393.9901 or Junior Warden Rebecca Cline (804) 683.0081, who will reach Anna directly.
