NeverTheLess – December 18, 2016

Welcome to All, especially if you are visiting us today.  We are delighted to have you here.

Stewardship update:   As of Monday, December 12, we had received 83 Pledges for a total of $277,614.00, towards a goal of $370,000.00.

Special Message for the Wednesday Eucharist Crowd… If you are a regular (or semi-regular) attender of our Wednesday morning service and go to Ashland Coffee & Tea following, we’d like to suggest that we, either collectively, or individually, get a gift card or cards as a Christmas thank-you for Erin, who serves us faithfully and so very cheerfully each Wednesday morning.  The sign on the tip jar says that tips go to support a charitable cause, so I’m not sure if Erin understands our level of appreciation for her service of our thundering herd on Wednesdays mornings.  If you’d like to contribute to one big gift-card, please contact Margaret, and we will get one from the group. Others who’d like to do something individually will be on your own  J

Christmas Poinsettias   we will again be decorating the altar with poinsettias for the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services.  If you would like to donate a poinsettia in honor or memory of loved one(s), please contact Margaret in the office, by Wednesday, December 21st.  Suggested minimum donation is $35.

Historical St. Nicholas   Looking for a quick and easy Christmas gift?  There’s a book about the historical St. Nicholas written by Anna’s former colleague, the Rev. Dr. Foster Eich, that you might consider.  Foster’s unique perspective as both a pediatrician and a priest lends sensitivity both to children, as well as theological accuracy in talking about the figure of St. Nicholas in the Christian tradition.  A check for $20.00 written to “Foster Eich” covers the cost of this hardcover book—signed by the author—and shipping it to you or a loved one.  Please include the name of the child when you order it, so that Dr. Eich can personalize it for each child. A copy of the book is on display at Information Central for you to look over before you decide to buy. Dr. Eich’s address is 207 Breckenridge Ct., Florence, AL 35630.  Foster says, “I like to write the children’s names in the [books]. Several moms have told me their child said, ‘You mean the guy that wrote this book knows my name?”

High School Youth Group - Christmas Outreach   our intrepid and ambitious high schoolers have offered to help ten families, 19 children(!), have a happy Christmas. With God’s help and yours, they will make this happen! You will find wish lists at Information Central, as well as boxes marked for each child.    Today is the deadline to drop off gifts.

High School Youth Group Mission – Tri-cities Workcamp   CALLING ALL ADULT MALES – YOU ARE WANTED!  Keeping with tradition, SJTL High Schoolers will attend the JULY 16 – 22 (2nd week) of camp.  This is a FULL week commitment/retreat!  For more information:  Danah Massey will be one chaperone representing SJTL; there is an especial need for a male chaperone to participate.  Please contact Danah Massey if you, or someone you know, can help.

Pop Tops!!!  St James the Less has a phenomenal start to this school year's saving of Pop Tops for the Richmond Ronald McDonald House!  Wow.  Please keep up the momentum.  Any pop top will do:  soup cans, soda cans, dog / cat food cans.  Keep 'em coming!  The Sunday School wants to deliver the best year ever to the Ronald McDonald House in memory of Charlotte Reynolds.

Vestry Nominations   The SJTL Annual Meeting will be on Sunday, February 12, 2017, immediately following 10:00 church.  A new Vestry will be elected at that time.

Vestry nominating requirements

Deciding who to nominate to serve on the vestry is not done lightly. It is a process of discernment. The nominating committee listened for the Spirit to guide them in their choice of candidates who have the spiritual gifts to serve the parish in this ministry at this time.
