NeverTheLess – February 4, 2018

Welcome To All, especially if you are visiting us today. We are delighted to have you here. Nametags are an outward symbol of radical hospitality.  If you don’t have one, please see an usher or a greeter for assistance.  If you are visiting, we also invite you to fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

Bluegrass Mass   today, as an introduction, the Vassar Family Singers will be our musical guests at 10 am church.  There will also be a baptism this morning.  Then on February 11 at 5 pm, and subsequent 2nd Sundays, we’ll have a Bluegrass Mass with Holy Eucharist.  Amateur musicians are invited to join in.  All are welcome!

Vestry Slate   After careful consideration, the Vestry is pleased to announce the slate of nominees for the 2018 class to serve three year terms. Alexandra Meade, Mary Ann Kinser, and Randy Marshall have all accepted the invitation to stand and have received the Vestry's full support. Additionally, Dawn Stockbridge has graciously accepted to stand for the two-year term remaining after Ricki Carson stepped down, also with the Vestry's full support.  Our annual meeting will be held between services at 9 am on February 11.  We also want to express our appreciation for the hard work of our outgoing class, Dawn Davis, Richard Grosse, and Beth Markwood. Thank you all for your dedicated service.

Annual Report   Team Leaders, please prepare a brief report to share with the parish.  Please get your reports to Margaret (preferably by email) as soon as possible so that she can compile and copy the report.

Welcoming our Christian Formation Intern   today, we welcome Celal Kamran as our Formation intern. He will serve with St. James the Less working on Christian Formation with the Children, Youth, and Adults. He will have varied responsibilities in these areas. Recently married, he is heading to Virginia Seminary in the fall seeking ordination to the priesthood. The internship will be with us through the rest of the program year. One key area will helping us shape a job description for a permanent Christian Formation position we hope to begin in the fall. Please help welcome Celal and his wife Erin when you see them!

Lenten Offerings   On Wednesday evenings, for teens and adults, we will offer "The Path" put out by Forward Movement which is a scriptural overview of the whole Bible, and younger children will have their own Lenten practice in art and activities from Pathways of Faith. We will meet weekly for a simple supper and then two mini-lessons taught by Beth Harrison and Father Rock. We will begin Wednesday, February 21 and continue through March 21. Requested book donation: $16.   And, our Advent Story time was so much fun, we would like to do a novel for Lent. Starting at 11 am on Ash Wednesday (Feb 14) we will read through the delightful "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" by Kate DiCamillo. While a children's book, like the best of them, it is written on multiple levels and it has become a family favorite. Requested book donation: $8.50.

Gratitude   so much of the work of this church, across all of its ministries, is accomplished by a vast army of volunteers.  Keep an eye on our Stewardship bulletin board for individuals and groups who have given generously of their time and talent to better our community.  This week, we are especially grateful to our parish nurse, Bobbie Street.

Pledge Envelopes   are available for pick-up in the hallway at Information Central.  If you opted out of the numbered pledge envelopes, THANK YOU!  And please note, for recordkeeping purposes, you still have a number assigned to your family; it may not be the same number you have always had.  You will find colorful cards with your new pledging number on the same table as the envelopes.  Please update your banking service to reflect your current designation.
