NeverTheLess – July 2, 2017

Welcome to All, especially if you are visiting us today.  We are delighted to have you here. Nametags are an outward symbol of radical hospitality.  We have new people in the church and an uptick in our visitors.  Wearing a nametag helps everyone!  If you don’t have one, please see an usher or a greeter for assistance.  If you are visiting, we also invite you to fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

Chenery Committee   are you willing to serve on SJTL’s Chenery Committee?  We have a couple of spaces open and are looking for members to help with this unique and important ministry in the life of our parish.  If you are interested, please speak with Anna.

In the Beginning …  The Adult Bible Study group would like to continue into the summer and Beth Harrison is happy to continue facilitating, so ... join us in Brydon Hall at 9:00 a.m., resuming this Sunday, July 2 for a 6-week drop-in discussion on the Old Testament and the Creation Stories.  All are welcome.

Scheduling Notes   in observance of the July 4th holiday, the church office will be closed July 3 and July 4.  See you on Wednesday, July 5!  Beth Harrison will offer Morning Prayer on Wednesday, July 5 at 7:30 a.m.

Also, Anna will be out of town from this afternoon through the evening of July 5; in case of a pastoral emergency, please call the Rev. Nik Forti of Fork Church at (804) 291-6124.

The Presentation Hymn, #424   is a new one to many of us; today and in the weeks to come, we will use these quieter summer months to familiarize ourselves with it and to learn this lovely tune.

Calling Foodies, and Money People, and Warm Smilers …   the Sunday worship experience, the heartbeat of our life together as a congregation, depends on the service of volunteers.  Summer, when attendance is often lighter, is an ideal time to try out a new activity.  Any committee would be happy to welcome you; there is, however, an especial need for help with Parish Life (receptions and food for special occasions), and for people to count the offering, and for ushers.  If you would like to contribute your talent to our volunteer pool, please contact Margaret in the office.

Paper Grocery Bags   The SJTL Food Ministry is happy to collect your paper grocery bags. A bin for them is in the hallway outside the parish office.

SJTL Campers   twelve (count ‘em, 12!) of our younger parishioners are enjoying Shrine Mont as campers this summer.  They love to get (regular) mail.  If you’d like to drop a note to a camper, or three, there is a list of who is going, and when, on the bulletin board at Information Central.

The Pop Tops have been counted and delivered    to the Ronald McDonald House on Monument Avenue in memory of Charlotte Reynolds.  They were so very grateful and impressed with the contribution!  Last school year we contributed 35,500 and this year -drum roll - we gave them nearly 60,000 pop tops!!!!  That was 41 lbs. of pop tops.  Thank you SJTL and outside friends who participated in this worthwhile outreach project.  Please keep those pop tops coming.  Next year, we must beat this year’s total!  The bar is set high.  If you would like to see the good work that the Ronald McDonald House does, visit their link ( or stop in and see them.
