NeverTheLess – July 21, 2019

Welcome To All, especially if you are visiting us today. We are delighted to have you here.  If you are visiting, we invite you to fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

High School Mission to Tri-Cities Workcamp   our High School Youth Group and their fearless leaders will be making their annual mission, leaving today immediately after 10 am worship.  While at Workcamp, electronic screens are discouraged, but regular mail is always welcome.  If you’d like to write an encouragement, the address is [Camper Name], WORKCAMP 2019, PO Box 1761, Petersburg, VA  23805.  The list of campers is on the Outreach bulletin board in the hallway.

Vacation Bible School   Mark your calendars! Children Pre-K-5th grade are invited to Vacation Bible School August 5-8, 5:30-7:30 pm here at St. James the Less. We will have dinner and enjoy songs, skits, art, and fellowship each night as we journey together through the question "Who is my neighbor?"  Please see Carolina Lugo with questions.  Sign-up is available in the hallway, or on-line via our eblast and Facebook Events.

Hope Haitian Children’s Choir Concert   Tuesday, July 30, 7 pm, at Shiloh Baptist Church, Ashland.  Join Shiloh Baptist and 1st Baptist as they present an evening of beautiful music performed by the Hope Haitian Children’s Choir.  No charge; donations gratefully accepted.  The children and their adult chaperones have found lodging, but the folks at Shiloh would appreciate help with providing a buffet dinner for the participants before their concert; currently they anticipate 15 children and 4 adult chaperones.  Please contact the SJTL office if you are able to help with feeding them.  Thanks.

When They See Us   Shiloh Baptist invites us (the whole Ashland Community) to a viewing of the Netflix movie/documentary, “When They See Us” and conversation, “How Does Bias Impact Your View?”  Part 2 on July 26, 7 pm.  All are welcome.  No charge, but donations of school supplies requested.

Shrine Mont Parish Retreat   a sign-up sheet is in the hallway for the annual Parish Retreat at Shrine Mont, September 20-22.  Children 4-12 YO:  $50; Teens 13-HS Seniors: $75;  Adults, 18+:  $150.  You are not fully signed up until you have paid a 50% deposit.  Deposit is not refundable after August 20.  Scholarships are available; check with Father Rock+.  Stay tuned for programming notes!

Supper Club   If you really want to get to know fellow St. James the Less friends, join us for Supper Club.  Once a month, September through May, get together at a host’s home for dinner with 8-10 other folks from SJTL for conversation and community.  There’s more information and a sign-up sheet in the hallway.  Let’s make this the best Supper Club year ever!

Ashland Christian Emergency Center (ACES)   we have a bin in the hallway dedicated to donations to ACES; pinned up above the bin is a current list of items ACES folks need most.  Also, ACES is recruiting drivers for Hanover Senior Rides, a volunteer transportation program for seniors.  If you’d like to know more, call (804) 543.6115.
