NeverTheLess – July 23, 2017

Dear St. James the Less family,

The Vestry invites you to attend an Informational Session, on Sunday July 30th at 9:00 a.m.

The goal of this meeting is to provide the congregation with real time information about our path forward. Because the time is short, our focus will be on sharing the vestry’s work on this topic. Questions and comments for the vestry may be shared in written form, on cards provided for that purpose, and will be answered at a later time.

This is the first of many congregational meetings. Later meetings will provide additional time for the vestry to intentionally and respectfully hear from folks in dialogue and discussion.

We have been blessed to have Karen Salter sit with parishioners these last three weeks to help the vestry effectively hear people’s concerns. If you have not yet had the opportunity to speak with Karen and would like to, you may contact her at; or 804-338-7721. We know that open communication and dedication to hearing, respecting, understanding and loving one another will help each and every one of us develop clarity about the path we are walking forward together.

Welcome To All, especially if you are visiting us today. We are delighted to have you here. Nametags are an outward symbol of radical hospitality.  If you don’t have one, please see an usher or a greeter for assistance. If you are visiting, we also invite you to fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

SJTL Social Gatherings   Retired Old Men Eating Out, ROMEOs for short, will meet Tuesday, July 25 at 11:30 a.m. at Trackside Grill. If you fit the description, you are welcome to join.

The women of a certain age, also known as the Red Hats, eat out, too, and don't necessarily wear a red hat. They will also meet on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Hanover Sports Grill.

Forming Stewards at SJTL   “Stewardship is using the gifts that God gives us to do the work God calls us to do.” We’re looking for a few good folks to help us rethink and retool the way we think and talk about stewardship and fundraising. This is not just the annual fall pledge drive!  Please prayerfully consider helping with this effort, and let George Spagna know of your willingness to participate.

SJTL Campers – twelve—count ‘em, 12!—of our younger parishioners are enjoying Shrine Mont as campers this summer, a week or 2 at a time.  They love to get “regular” mail.  IF you’d like to drop a note to a camper, or three, there is a list of who is going, and when, on the bulletin board at Information Central.

Warm Smiles and Friendly Handshakes ...We seek the gift of your talent!  Summer is an ideal time to try out a new activity.  We especially need ushers and people to count the offering. Any committee would be happy to welcome you. If you would like to contribute your talent to our volunteer pool, please contact Margaret in the office.

Vacation Bible School    will be August 14-17.  Digging for Treasure: Parables Revealed.  Dig into vacation Bible school! Bible stories, games, crafts, snacks, and other activities will help us dig deeper to reveal the treasures in Jesus' parables.  While the materials are geared towards children in grades K-5, younger and older siblings and friends are always welcome.  Registration forms are available in the hallway at Information Central.  And you may contact Ragan Dyer for questions or to register.

Outreach Seeks Committee Chairs   Our work in the community, serving the underserved, is one of our brightest ministries.  Outreach is seeking at least two people to oversee our commitments to Community Suppers and to CARITAS.  If either of these ministries speak to your heart, please contact Dani Stockwell, who is our Outreach Chairperson.
