NeverTheLess – June 18, 2017

TODAY

Welcome to All, especially if you are visiting us today.  We are delighted to have you here. Nametags are an outward symbol of radical hospitality.  We have new people in the church and an uptick in our visitors.  Wearing a nametag helps everyone!  If you don’t have one, please see an usher or a greeter for assistance.  If you are visiting, we also invite you to fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

ALSO OF NOTE

All Are Invited to a Church Vitality Day with Bishop Goff   Several members of the Vestry will be joining leaders from every corner of the Diocese, and diocesan staff members from each ministry office, for a church vitality workshop in Northern Virginia, led by Bishop Goff on Saturday, June 24. The vestry extends the invitation to anyone from the congregation who may be interested in learning about resources that lead to more engaged congregational life across all ministries.  Church Vitality and Stewardship Day is an expansion of the Diocese’s annual stewardship workshop. Coordinators promise time with our bishops and workshops on missions and outreach, communications, Christian formation, planned giving, and the new “All Hearts Open” annual giving program.  Our Vestry desires to expand the practice of stewardship throughout the year, not only as a request for financial support in the fall but also as an initiative to assess and affirm our gifts, experience deep gratitude, and “open our hearts” to the wise and just use of our manifold resources.  We will coordinate transportation to Epiphany Herndon/Oak Hill. Programs run 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m., and lunch will be provided. St. James the Less will cover all registration costs.  If you would like to attend, contact the SJTL office by noon on Tuesday, June 20.

Calling Foodies and Money People   the Sunday worship experience, the heartbeat of our life together as a congregation, depends on the service of volunteers.  Summer, when attendance is often lighter, is an ideal time to try out a new activity.  Any committee would be happy to welcome you; there is, however, an especial need for help with Parish Life (receptions and food for special occasions), and for people to count the offering.  If you would like to contribute your talent to our volunteer pool, please contact Margaret in the office.

Backpack Donations & Paper Grocery Bags   Wow! St. James the Less has contributed $310.00 to the SJTL Backpack Food Ministry. Your extraordinarily generous contributions will enable Peter Paul Development Center to purchase and replace over 30 backpacks. Thank you so very much for making this possible for the children in the PPDC after-school program.

The Food Ministry is also happy to collect your paper grocery bags. A bin for them is in the hallway outside the parish office.
