NeverTheLess – June 4, 2017

TODAY AND THIS WEEK

Welcome to All, especially if you are visiting us today.  We are delighted to have you here. Nametags are an outward symbol of radical hospitality.  We have new people in the church and an uptick in our visitors.  Wearing a nametag helps everyone!  If you don’t have one, please see an usher or a greeter for assistance.  If you are visiting, we also invite you to fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

Bible Study Resumes Today    and the discussion will center around these scriptures:  Matthew 7:6-14; Luke 11:9-13, 13:24, 6:31; and/or Thomas 2, 92, 93, 94.  All are welcome, regardless of your preparation.  Join us in the classroom in Brydon Hall.

Graduating Seniors    Does your family have a senior graduating from high school, college, or graduate school, this spring?  We want to celebrate this milestone with you.  Please call or email Margaret in the office by Wednesday, June 7 with the name of the student, where s/he is graduating from, and future plans, if they are known.  We’ll publish the list in the bulletin on June 11, which is also High School Youth Group Sunday.

Get Your Ride Sparkling!     The rescheduled High School Youth Group Annual Fundraising Car Wash is next Saturday, June 10, 8 am to noon, right here in our parking lot. Get your dusty pollen-coated vehicle sparkling clean, and support a good cause!   No set price, all donations gratefully received. Funds raised will be used for the Youth Group Summer Mission Trip. Remember, a clean car is a happy car!

We Need Your Pop-Tops!    Charlotte Reynolds Memorial Pop Top Collection:  Please bring any accumulated pop tops to church by 9 am on Sunday, June 11.   The Sunday School kids will be counting and weighing them for the annual tally.   This looks to be our best year ever!  Thank you to everyone for contributing.  Once counted, we'll take them to Ronald McDonald House and donate them in memory of Charlotte "CJ" Reynolds

CARITAS—Volunteer Drivers Needed   Our collaboration with St. Ann’s also includes providing transportation for CARITAS guests when that parish hosts at the end of May/ beginning of June. Duncan Memorial is part of this rotation, too. We need volunteers to drive our van June 5, 6, 7 & 8 from 6:45 -9:15 p.m.

Nonviolent Communication Workshop   Are you frustrated with communication in your world? Are you looking for ways to manage conflict?  Are you curious about exploring concepts around communication?  Julie Ericksen is hosting a group of NVC trainers from different parts of the country at my home in June for practicing training and getting feedback.  They are offering a live, hands-on practice workshop to the community on Saturday, June 10 from 1:30 - 5pm here at SJTL in Brydon Hall.   Donations appreciated, suggested $10.  Contact Julie at 873.3786 to learn more and to register.

ALSO OF NOTE

Updating Your Contact Information   We have learned recently that Verizon has opted out of the email business, which means for many of you we no longer have a good email with which to reach you.  Please remember to let us know when any of your contact information changes so we can stay in touch.   Call or email the office with your new information.  Thanks!

Requesting Backpacks and Grocery Bags   Peter Paul Development Center would appreciate some replacement backpacks for their youngsters; the ones given out last Fall are wearing out. Yancey Jones, through his connections for the SJTL Food Backpack Ministry, has a source for backpacks that only cost $10.00.  If you are interested in contributing to the request from PPDC, please make checks out to St. James the Less and note SJTL Backpack Food Ministry on the memo line.  Thank you for your continuing support.  And speaking of the Food Ministry, there is a bin in the hallway outside the parish offices to collect paper grocery bags (no plastic please).

Feeling Hospitable?   Parish Life is seeking to expand its stable of volunteers for a variety of receptions and other activities we host at St. James the Less. This is a behind-the-scenes ministry of hospitality we extend to one another and guests of the church. If you enjoy planning a menu, setting a table, shopping for food, preparing food, setting up accommodations, or organizing the people who do, your help would be greatly appreciated! Please contact Dawn Davis at deltad368@gmail.com

Would You Like Help    getting to church on Sunday?  We would like to make Sunday worship services more accessible to those who may be unable to drive by offering transportation to SJTL. If you are interested in this offering for yourself, a friend or a neighbor, please contact the church office by email or calling 798-6336.

Thank You to the Parish   on the bulletin board at Information Central you will find a letter from Charles Joy expressing his gratitude to the parish.
