NeverTheLess – March 4, 2018

Welcome To All, especially if you are visiting us today. We are delighted to have you here. Nametags are an outward symbol of radical hospitality.  If you don’t have one, please see an usher or a greeter for assistance.  If you are visiting, we also invite you to fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

Welcome, The Rev. Deacon Harrison Higgins!  Today we are so pleased to welcome our new deacon, Harrison Higgins.  Harrison will be primarily working out in the community, strengthening our outreach to the students at Randolph-Macon College.  He will preach on occasion, starting today.  His email is

Bluegrass Mass   next Sunday, March 11, at 5 pm, we’ll enjoy our second Bluegrass Mass with the Vassar Family singers.  Invite your friends, all are welcome!

Daylight Savings Time    starts in the wee hours of next Sunday, March 11 (can Spring be far behind?!?).  If you still use analog timepieces, please remember to set your clocks and alarms forward by 1 hour!

Easter Flowers    if you would like to contribute flowers to the Easter altar in memory of, or in thanksgiving for a loved one or three, please contact Margaret in the office by Monday, March 26.  Suggested donations for altar flowers is $35.  Those honored will be listed in the Easter bulletins.

Special Lenten Offerings   For teens and adults, we will offer "The Path" put out by Forward Movement which is a scriptural overview of the whole Bible. We will meet weekly for a simple supper at 6 pm and then two mini-lessons taught by Beth Harrison and Father Rock, starting at 6:30 pm. We will begin Wednesday, February 21 and continue through March 21.  Suggested book donation: $16.

There is a sign-up for Simple Supper in the hallway outside the offices.  Please let us know if you are planning to come for supper so that we are sure to make enough food!

While the teens and parents are talking about The Path, join us for a Lenten Children's series as we walk through the bible looking at the promises of God! The children will experience the works of God through Bible lessons, art, and activities. Join us this Lent season, beginning on February 21, for a simple supper at 6 pm, and then art and activities beginning at 6:30 pm.

Our Advent Story time was so much fun, we would like to do a novel for Lent. Starting at 11 am on Ash Wednesday (Feb 14) we will read through the delightful "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" by Kate DiCamillo. While a children's book, like the best of them, it is written on multiple levels and it has become a family favorite. We will complete the book and the conversation this next Wednesday.

High School Youth Group, Friday Lenten Breakfast & Bible Study   Friday mornings through Lent, 7-7:45 am, here at SJTL. Breakfast provided!  The High Schoolers chose an interesting and provocative set of questions this year for their Lenten Breakfast Bible Study:  1.Why is there such a contrast between the vengeful smiting God of the Old Testament, and the message of love in the New Testament?   2.How does "hell" figure in this contrast?   3.What insights does this give us into "religions" messages around suicide and LGBTQ, and   4.What insights does this give us in our own walk with God?  Questions, or if you can help with transportation, please contact PK Kinser cell/txt 703-399-5217 or Ale Meade cell/txt 804-314-8976
