NeverTheLess – May 15, 2016

TODAY

WELCOME TO ALL, especially if you are visiting us today. Please join us for coffee hour in Brydon Hall, after church.

PENTECOST Today is the feast of Pentecost. We wear red to church remembering the tongues of fire that touched the disciples, and we hear the Acts lesson in many languages as the Spirit filled the first followers of Jesus.

COMING UP

SESQUICENTENNIAL

It’s finally here! Join St. James the Less next Sunday, May 22, as we celebrate our Sesquicentennial Anniversary. Our celebration starts with our 10 am Eucharist; our guest preacher is the Rev. Canon Patrick J. Wingo, Canon to the Ordinary for the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. We will raise a joyful noise with guest musicians, the Festival Brass Quintet, as well as our own handbells, the St. Cecilia Children’s Choir and the adult choir. Following church, we’ll continue celebrating with a catered luncheon. Please Note: We will have only one service next Sunday, at 10 am, so that we can all worship and celebrate together.

USHERS NEEDED! We are expecting a large crowd, and extra hands are needed to welcome, guide, and seat all of our guests and visitors. If you can help, please contact Rich Holt, 368.0609 or rich.holt8@gmail.com.

CAN YOU VOLUNTEER FOR AN HOUR OR TWO?

There are numerous volunteering opportunities to ensure our celebration runs smoothly and that we all have a good time. Sign-up sheets with job descriptions and available time slots are on clipboards at Information Central. BBQ Pick-up is on Saturday, May 21st, 9:00 am to Noon, in the Kitchen. Complete information on our Sesquicentennial celebration is on our website: http://www.stjamestheless.com/content/st-james-less-sesquicentennial

GRADUATIONS Do you have a child graduating from high school, community college, college, and/or graduate school this spring? Please let the office know his or her name and future plans if they have them settled, by May 26.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
AUGUST 15 - 18th from 5:30-7:30 pm. VBS is a 3-day education program called “SURPRISE: Stories of Discovering Jesus”; the fourth night is an all-family dinner/fun night. Jesus surprised the people he met. People in the temple were amazed by the conversations and questions they had with a boy named Jesus. With each surprise, people discovered more about Jesus. Are you ready for your children to be surprised by Jesus? Everyone is welcome. The VBS educational program is designed for Pre-K - 5th Graders and we would love to have middle and senior high kids perform the dramas that are included with the program and to help with the children’s activities. And of course we need volunteers to make this a special experience for our children!
