TODAY AND THIS WEEK

Welcome To All, especially if you are visiting us today. We are delighted to have you here.  If you are visiting, we invite you to fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

Pentecost and Baptism   today we celebrate Pentecost, and we baptize Prudense Reynolds into the household of God.  Please join us for a reception in Brydon Hall following 10:00 church.

Hanover Harmony   come join us in the church for an evening of music tonight, May 20th at 6 pm, featuring the Hanover Harmony, Ashland's newest men's community choir. They will be singing sacred anthems along with patriotic music so come out for this uplifting event!  Free and open to the public.

Memorial Service for Maud Brumback   Next Saturday, May 26, at 2 pm, please join Maud’s family as they celebrate her life.  A reception will follow in Brydon Hall.

Contemplative Service   next Sunday, May 27, 5 pm, join us for a quiet place of prayer, music, poetry, and meditation.  Bring a friend, all are welcome.

 

NURSERY NEWS  

Congratulations to Loida!   Congratulations to Loida Matthews!  Our wonderful Sunday morning Nursery Attendant, Loida Matthews has earned her BS in Clinical Laboratory Science from VCU; she graduated last weekend.  If you have a moment, please extend your best to her.  Nursery Vacation    Loida, and her mother, Maria, who, together, oversee our nursery on Sunday mornings, will be taking a well-deserved vacation.  Please let Margaret know if you can help out with our youngest children on June 17, June 24, and/or July 1. 

 

JUNE 10 IS A BIG DAY HERE AT SJTL!

   Youth Sunday   As is our tradition, our High School Youth Group will take over the worship at 10 am.  Our graduating seniors will deliver the homily; the whole group will bring you along on an exploration of their journey to near-adulthood; and our St. Cecilia Children's Choir will accompany them. 
   Recognition of Graduates - if you are, or have a family member graduating from High School or College that you would like recognized, please let Margaret (margaret@stjamestheless.church) know your student’s name, school, degree, and if you know it, your student's future plans.  We’ll put it in the bulletin that Sunday.

   Parish Picnic - to close out our regular year, we have our annual Summer Parish Picnic, immediately after 10 am worship.  Vestry provides the chicken and lemonade.  Please bring a favorite dish to share.   

   Bluegrass Mass - the Vassar Family Singers conclude their season with us at 5 pm for the Bluegrass Mass.  A little preachin' and a whole bunch of beautiful music.  Bring a friend, all are welcome.     

 

ADULT FORMATION OPPORTUNITIES!  

The Work of the People   Sundays at 9 am, in the classroom in Brydon Hall, we bring you an Adult Formation class called The Work of the People.  This is a video curriculum about how we live into our faith in our daily lives.  It is a drop-in class, each session stands alone.  All are welcome.

Screwtape Letters   Wednesday evenings at 7 pm, in the classroom in Brydon Hall, Beth Harrison and Ian Sutton will facilitate a multi-week drop-in conversation on C. S. Lewis' The Screwtape Letters.

Bible Study   … also continues on Sundays at 8:45 am in the Rectory! Come join in the lively discussion there.
