NeverTheLess – May 26, 2019

Welcome To All, especially if you are visiting us today. We are delighted to have you here.  If you are visiting, we invite you to fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

Almost Time to Count the Pop Tops!   The Sunday School children are asking that you bring your saved Pop Tops to church before June 2. The children will be “counting” them on June 2.  The annual goal is to beat last year’s count (78,000!) — always giving more to the Ronald McDonald House.  The Sunday School’s outreach is in memory of our own Charlotte Reynolds.  Kids of all ages are invited to help count on June 2.

Calling All Summer Camp Chenery Fund Applicants!  If you’re planning to submit an application to the Chenery Fund to receive financial assistance for summer camp, now is the time. As many of our parishioners know, the Chenery Fund has made it possible for hundreds of children to grow in Christian spirituality through the generosity of this fund. All are welcome!

Eligibility for Funding   To receive financial support for your child’s summer camp, the camp must be church-related or be an Episcopal-affiliated camp. Assistance will be considered for 50% of the total amount of the expense for first-time requests, and 25% of the total expense for subsequent requests. Payment/checks for approved funds are made directly to the camp and assumes the applicant will provide payment for the balance due.

   Timing

The Chenery Committee meets monthly to review applications and submit recommendations to the Vestry for final approval. Application forms (entitled “Chenery Fund Scholarship Application”) are available at St. James the Less along the hallway to Brydon Hall (Information Central), or you can download them from our website at: https://www.stjamestheless.com/chenery-committee. For questions, please contact Beth Markwood, Chair of the Chenery Committee.

Parish Picnic and Family Picture Day … join us on June 2nd following 10 am church for our annual parish picnic.  We’ll celebrate the end of the program year; we’ll celebrate the long and dedicated ministries of Steve Pace, Acolyte Master, and Melissa Roberts, Children’s Formation; and thanks to Susan Hubbard and Dick Shirey, we’ll get pictures of as many families as we can to put into our new directory.  We’ll provide the chicken and the beverages.  You bring a favorite dish to share.

Local Episcopal Celebrations   our summer intern from last year, Robert Dilday, will be ordained to the diaconate on Saturday, June 15, 10:30 am, at St. Stephen’s episcopal, Grove Ave., Richmond.  All are welcome to this glorious event!  And our sister church, Calvary Episcopal in Hanover Courthouse, will install their rector, the Rev. Victor King on Sunday, June 23rd at 2 pm. All are welcome and invited.

Ashland Christian Emergency Center (ACES)   we have a bin in the hallway dedicated to donations to ACES; pinned up above the bin is a current list of items ACES folks need most.  Also, ACES is recruiting drivers for Hanover Senior Rides, a volunteer transportation program for seniors.  If you’d like to know more, call (804) 543.6115.

A special request from ACES:  a client is seeking an old, long bed pickup truck that will pass state inspection and is less than $5000.  Please call 543.6115 if you can help.

Nametags … we have some new staff, and we’re seeing lots of new visitors.  Please wear your nametag to help the newer folks know who we all are; it is the easiest way to offer warm welcome to visitors!  If you don’t have one, please let Margaret know – 798.6336.

Staying Connected   would you like to receive our weekly news email (Wednesdays) and/or our Weekly Meditation (Fridays), and/or our 4th Quarter email?  If so, please contact Margaret in the office, 798.6336 or margaret@stjamestheless.church to have your email added to our list.
