NeverTheLess – May 7, 2017

Welcome to All, especially if you are visiting us today.  We are delighted to have you here. We invite everyone to wear a nametag.  If you don’t have one, please see an usher or a greeter for assistance. Please also fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

Christian Formation    Bible Study with Beth Harrison, 9 am, Brydon Hall   We're going to continue our exploration of the Sermon on the Mount/Plain.  If you want to think about it ahead of time, please read Matthew 6:16-34. Parallels in Luke are: 12:33-34, 11:34-35, 16:13, 12:22-32.  Thomas 95 and 36 are also parallels.   So, come join us as we ponder together Jesus' teachings on fasting, possessions, and anxiety.

High School Youth Group Car Wash   Get your car washed Saturday, May 13, 8 am to noon, right here in our parking lot.  Get your dusty pollen-coated vehicle sparkling clean, and support a good cause!   No set price, all donations gratefully received.  Funds raised will be used for the Youth Group Summer Mission Trip.  Remember, a clean car makes a great Mother's Day gift!

Memorial Garden Gate   the gate protecting the Memorial Garden is now in place.  When the church is open, the gate will also be wide open.  When the church is closed, the gate will be closed, and it should never be locked.  If you come for some quiet time in our sacred space and find that the gate is accidentally locked, you may simply reach over the gate and turn the knob in the latch.

Requesting Backpacks and Grocery Bags   Peter Paul Development Center would appreciate some replacement backpacks for their youngsters; the ones given out last fall are wearing out. Yancey Jones, through his connections for the SJTL Food Backpack Ministry, has a source for backpacks that only cost $10.00.  If you are interested in contributing to the request from PPDC, please make checks out to St. James the Less and note SJTL Backpack Food Ministry on the memo line.  Thank you for your continuing support.  And speaking of the Food Ministry, there is a bin in the hallway outside the parish offices to collect paper grocery bags (no plastic please).

Preparing for a Joy-full Send-off   As part of our gift to Charles, whose last service with us will be May 21, we are creating a Memory Box.  We need your thoughts, notes, drawings, poems, letters, pictures, and memories of a special time with Fr. Charles.  There is a dedicated collection box in the parish office.  We'll present the box to Charles as part of our celebration.  Additionally, a collection is being taken for a purse. Checks may be made payable to St. James the Less with a "Charles Joy" memo.  Please mark your calendars.  The service will be followed by a meal together in Brydon Hall. If you would like to volunteer for the celebration, please sign up at Information Central in our hallway outside the parish offices.

Ushers and Greeters Needed   Sunday morning worship participation is a vital part of the worship experience, and volunteers are always welcome to join a team.  Looking ahead, we have especial needs for Ushers and for Greeters.  Both of these positions require no experience and minimal training.  If you can smile warmly and shake a hand or hand a bulletin to someone, you can be a Greeter or an Usher!  Please contact Margaret in the office if you are interested in either position.

Graduating Seniors    Does your family have a senior graduating from high school, college, or graduate school, this spring?  We want to celebrate this milestone with you.  Please call or email Margaret in the office with the name of the student, where s/he is graduating from, and future plans, if they are known.  We’ll publish the list in the bulletin on June 11, which is also High School Youth Group Sunday.

Would You Like Help    getting to church on Sunday?  We would like to make Sunday worship services more accessible to those who may be unable to drive by offering transportation to SJTL. If you are interested in this offering for yourself, a friend or a neighbor, please contact the church office by email or calling 798-6336.

In Case of Pastoral Emergency:   Anna is on-call 24/7 for pastoral emergencies.  If you would like to speak with her about a pastoral matter at any time, she is available to you.  If it is during regular business hours, please call the church office. Outside of regular business hours, please call the rectory at 804.299.3730. If there is no answer there, you may contact Senior Warden Yancey Jones 804.393.9901 or Junior Warden Rebecca Cline 804.683.0081.
