TODAY

WELCOME TO ALL, especially if you are visiting us today.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! Today we celebrate and honor all the moms and mother role models in our lives. Thank you for the laundry, the kissed boo-boos, the quiet wisdom, and the unconditional love you give unstintingly. Thank you.

COMING UP

PENTECOST The feast of Pentecost is May 15. As in the past we would like to celebrate by reading one of the lessons in a foreign language. If you are able to read a language other than English, please speak to George Spagna (752.6513 or thespagnas@comcast.net) or Claudia Merritt (798.6336 or cmerritt@stjamestheless.com). Wear red to church – the color for the coming of the Holy Spirit.

SESQUICENTENNIAL

Join St. James the Less on Sunday, May 22, as we celebrate our Sesquicentennial Birthday! We'll start the celebration at our 10 am Eucharist and continue with a catered luncheon immediately following the service. We'll include a bit of history and a lot of fun...for all ages! Don’t miss the chance to celebrate this monumental anniversary and to hear guest preacher, the Rev. Canon Patrick J. Wingo, Canon to the Ordinary for the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. We will have only one service on that Sunday, at 10 am, so that we can all worship and celebrate together.

HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE SESQUICENTENNIAL

Volunteer to help with the festivities! There are numerous volunteering opportunities to ensure everything runs smoothly and that we all have a good time. Sign-up sheets with job descriptions and available time slots are on clipboards at Information Central.

Tell our youth how much you love SJTL! (See below.)

If you'd like to financially support our celebration, we are offering a variety of fundraising opportunities:

  •  sponsorships are available at multiple levels;

  •  you can pre-order sesquicentennial commemorative merchandise:

    • notecards or a print of the Vicky Bickel sketch of St. James the Less ($10 for a packet of ten cards or one frame-worthy print);

    • commemorative insulated tumbler with straw ($6/each); and/or

    • Snow White Inn BBQ ($12/lb.).

Complete information on our Sesquicentennial events, sponsorships, and merchandise is on our website: http://www.stjamestheless.com/content/st-james-less-sesquicentennial You can also place orders for merchandise and BBQ at Information Central.

REQUEST FOR AN INTERVIEW. The high school youth group has been asked to create a video montage of answers to questions such as: “What is your favorite part of being a member of the St. James the Less family?” “Where do you see God around St. James the Less?” and “What memory about St. James the Less would you like to share?” Over Mother’s Day week-end, either at the Car Wash, between services, or during refreshment time after church on Sunday, you may be asked by a high school student to do an interview that will contribute to this footage. We will view the montage at our Sesquicentennial Celebration (plus there will be a compilation of all the interviews if you’d like to see them all). We hope you say Yes!

OUTREACH AND FELLOWSHIP

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
AUGUST 15 - 18th from 5:30-7:30 pm. VBS is a 3-day education program called “SURPRISE: Stories of Discovering Jesus”; the fourth night is an all-family dinner/fun night. Jesus surprised the people he met! People in the temple were amazed by the conversations and questions they had with a boy named Jesus. With each surprise, people discovered more about Jesus. Are you ready for your children to be surprised by Jesus? Everyone is welcome. The VBS educational program is designed for Pre-K - 5th Graders and we would love to have middle and senior high kids perform the dramas that are included with the program and to help with the children’s activities. And of course we need volunteers to make this a special experience for our children!
Questions? Interested in participating? Contact Jen Martin, sjtlvbs@gmail.com .
