NeverTheLess – November 19, 2017

TODAY AND COMING SOON

Welcome To All, especially if you are visiting us today. We are delighted to have you here. Nametags are an outward symbol of radical hospitality.  If you don’t have one, please see an usher or a greeter for assistance.  If you are visiting, we also invite you to fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

Advent Class   Come join with Father Rock as we gather to read and discuss fictional stories to help get our minds and hearts prepared for Christmas. We will have some coffee and cocoa, gather in the library, and read seasonal tales both known and new. Hope you can join us!  Wednesdays, Dec. 6, 13, and 20, at 11 am.

Inquirers' Class Wednesdays    Have you ever thought of becoming a member of St. James the Less, or have you wanted to be confirmed? Father Rock is leading an Inquirers' Class for those who wish to officially be a part of St. James the Less and the Episcopal Church, Wednesdays at 7 pm, and will resume the week after Thanksgiving.  The class is in 4 parts, and will be in preparation for the Bishop's visit on the morning of December 24.  Teens in High School through adults of any age can participate.  Please contact Father Rock if you have any questions.

Bible Study/Adult Formation    Come join us in Adult Bible Study — 8:45 in the rectory.  Learn something about Abraham, Sarah, Hagar, and perhaps even yourself.  We are part of an old, old story.  Whether or not you have heard it before, you know it.  All are welcome!

Brunswick Stew   thanks to all who chopped and pulled and stirred and ladled and sold the Brunswick stew!  And if you ordered but haven’t picked it up yet, please do so today!

STEWARDSHIP and FUNDRAISING

Stewardship update:

  • Our campaign is going well; to date we have received 95 Pledges totaling $299,705.00.  While we are already ahead of where we were last year in December, we are still working towards fulfilling our ambitious goal and we invite you to consider prayerfully how you can contribute to the good works of this parish.
  • If you haven’t pledged yet, or ever, we invite you to join us in the good work that is happening here at St. James the Less by making a pledge.  Pledge cards are available in the hallway, and in the narthex, or by calling the office.
  • If you have pledged in the past, and feel for some personal or pastoral reason you cannot this year, please contact Father Rock.  He would love to be able to connect with you, not about your pledge, but about what is happening in your life.

Gratitudes from the Stewardship Committee:  Each week we give thanks to parishioners who exemplify the spirit of giving back to God in thankfulness for His generosity.  Our heartfelt thanks to:  our Mothers Morning Out Group, for their monthly service projects that serve inside and outside our walls.  Their most recent project was to clean and declutter the nursery – a herculean task!  Thank you Moms!

Your Stewardship Committee

Seamstresses!   The vestments that the St. Cecilia Choir children wear are the same cassocks many of you and/or your children wore. They are rather tight through the neck and shoulders and the robes can't be let out. We are exploring the possibility of having 12 new robes made, along with extras for potential new children joining the choir. If any of you are proficient at sewing new robes, please contact Joanne Robb at Joanne.robb4@gmail.com.

OUTREACH

Peter Paul Development Center   we are “adopting” a family to help them with Christmas.  You’ll find boxes at Information Central, and bios of the children with ages, sizes, and wish lists for your donations.  Please bring your unwrapped gifts by December 10.
