TODAY AND THIS WEEK

Welcome To All, especially if you are visiting us today. We are delighted to have you here. Nametags are an outward symbol of radical hospitality.  If you don’t have one, please see an usher or a greeter for assistance.  If you are visiting, we also invite you to fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

St. Francis’ Blessing of the Animals   please bring your slinky, scaly, furry, finned, and/or feathered family members to a blessing of animals TODAY at 5:30 pm  If your pet is timid, please consider a cage or even a picture, for the comfort of all.  Everyone is welcome.

Parish Workday   many thanks to everyone who came out yesterday to help clean up and clean out the building and grounds.  Your generous gift of time and talent are much appreciated!

OUTREACH

Soap for the Deacons of the Diocese of Virginia Prison Ministry    We are collecting full-size bars of soap for the deacons of the Diocese to distribute in their work at the prisons around Virginia.  Something we take for granted is a much appreciated blessing to those who use soap for bathing and washing their clothes.  A bag is outside Father Rock's office. These will be delivered Nov. 4.

Volunteer Opportunities   We in the office are going to resume holding staff meetings on Wednesdays at 9:30 am.  If you are available to answer phones and receive deliveries for about an hour on Wednesday mornings, we'd appreciate your help in the office.  Please contact Margaret in the office, 798.6336. if interested.

We also can use volunteers for Sunday morning - we especially need ushers for November.  Sign up at Information Central or contact Margaret in the office.

STEWARDSHIP and FUNDRAISING

Gratitudes from the Stewardship Committee:  Each week we give thanks to parishioners who exemplify the spirit of giving back to God in thankfulness for His generosity.  Our heartfelt thanks to:  Sandi and Dick Shirey, for their many years of handling our trash and recycling needs.  Thanks, Sandi and Dick!

Brunswick Stew Kicking Off Soon.  Friday & Saturday, November 17 and 18

Thanks to all the SJTL parishioners who took the time from their busy schedules to help with the many functions necessary to achieve our very successful Brunswick Stew Sale last year. We grossed in excess of $2,800 in 2016. We need new energy again this year as we will be making additional batches.  Saturday afternoon was a pure delight last year listening to James Taylor, The Temptations and other classic artists with a beer or two as about 20 volunteers were ladling, packaging and selling the product.  In case you haven’t heard, the pick-up is now called “The Stew Thru”. You don’t even need to leave your car, just drive up to the table.  Not only is this a great fundraiser for SJTL it is great fun for the volunteers. The kitchen crew on Friday is very important to our success and is a vital function.  Times are now listed and volunteer opportunities for our preparation day, Friday November 17 followed by stirring the pot, then filling containers and sales of this liquid gold delicacy on Saturday November 18.  Some sales are pushed over to Sunday.

Now is the time to sign up to volunteer for Friday, Saturday or both days. Details are on the bulletin board at Information Central.  Please sign up at your earliest convenience for working one of those days and for the PRE-ORDER sheets.  Price is $9 per quart this year and $8 per quart for orders of 10 or more.  Tell your friends and neighbors and tell them to tell their friends and neighbors.  Keith, our stew master will once again lead our efforts.

Thanks.  Questions?  Rich Holt- rich.holt8@gmail.com or 368-0609 or cell 304-1180
