NeverTheLess – September 10, 2017

Welcome To All, especially if you are visiting us today. We are delighted to have you here. Nametags are an outward symbol of radical hospitality.  If you don’t have one, please see an usher or a greeter for assistance.  If you are visiting, we also invite you to fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

Guest Preacher   today we extend a warm welcome to Fr. Gustavo Mansella and to our new Priest-in-Charge, Rev. Rock Higgins.

Parish Picnic and Ministry Fair  ...TODAY!! immediately following 10:00 church, please join us for our annual parish picnic.  All are welcome.

And while you are enjoying the picnic, join us for a Ministry Fair.  This congregation opens our hearts by serving each other as well as our wider community.  The Ministry Fair is a way for our ministries and committees to highlight the work we do and the ways we can participate to serve the greater good inside and outside our walls, and for you to explore volunteer opportunities.

Rev. Rock Higgins   will begin his time with us as Priest-in-Charge today in church, and tomorrow in the office.  His email is and he can be reached by phone at 798.6336.

Bishop's Visit RESCHEDULED!    Bishop Ted Gulick has rescheduled his visit with St. James the Less for SUNDAY, DECEMBER 24.  Please stay tuned for details.

Gratitude from the Stewardship Committee:  As we enter this time of stewardship pledging, each week we will give thanks to an individual who exemplifies the spirit of giving back to God in thankfulness for His generosity.

Our heartfelt thanks to:  Karlyn Yeager, for her outstanding service as our supply organist this past summer.  Thank you Karlyn!                                                                                                                                       Your Stewardship Committee

CARITAS @ SJTL – Sept. 16-23   C.A.R.I.T.A.S. (Congregations Around Richmond Involved To Assure Shelter) is our area's ministry providing shelter, food, and community to a group of homeless people, church by church, one week at a time.  St. James the Less will host ~35-40 gentlemen who are struggling with homelessness the week of September 16-23.  C.A.R.I.T.A.S. helps to break the cycles of homelessness and addiction in the Metro Richmond area so that people can lead stable lives. They are the largest provider of homeless services in the area, innovative because the four programs strategically fill the gaps in this system.  It helps the most vulnerable among us, which makes for stronger community.  There are a variety of volunteer opportunities; sign-up sheets are on the bulletin board at Information Central, and bins for donations of sheets, washcloths, and/or toiletries are in the hallway.

Parish Retreat at Shrine Mont   our favorite weekend is fast approaching!  September 22 – 24.  There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board at Information Central in our hallway.  $125 for adults, $50 for children 4-12 years.  Some financial assistance is available.  And it is not too early to get your payments in! Make checks to SJTL, and indicate Shrine Mont in the memo line.  Put them in the plate or drop them at the office.

Shrine Mont Book Discussion Selection   We will have a discussion of Walking the Bible by Bruce Feiler (2001, Harper Collins Books), for those who are interested in taking part.  The book reflects the author's desire to reconnect to the Bible by retracing stories of the Old Testament to their actual locations.  It is a fascinating adventure story, archaeological study and personal spiritual exploration.  It is also available used and for Kindle readers.  For those of you who have "Visit the Holy Land" on your bucket list, this is the book for you!
